Trap: Keep an Eye on Marketing Contacts

✉️ Spotter – Your Weekly HubSpot Helper

Tip

Quick fix for a common HubSpot headache.

Use the New Lead Scoring
Out: custom score properties.
In: more flexible and powerful lead scoring.

Find it in under marketing (indicated in first screenshot). How is it different? It’s a bit more specialized, it looks like it has more criteria built in, and there is an easy toggle to have scores degrade over time if a contact is inactive. Deal scoring and company scoring is also here! But only for some accounts. I am not sure why, but I will make sure to keep you posted.

⚠️ Trap

Mistake to avoid before it causes chaos.

Keep an Eye on Marketing Contacts
I see a lot of accounts who are improperly handling their marketing contacts. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • You can have as many contacts as you want, completely free.

  • What you pay for on your plan is marketing contacts.

  • You can only send marketing emails to marketing contacts.

  • If you go over your plan’s allotment of marketing contacts, you will be auto-upgraded

With all of that in mind, below I’ve indicated where to check marketing contacts. You can set contacts to non-marketing in the contact index view.

Warning: If you are close to your allotment and want to mass switch contacts to non-marketing, they will be switched at the end of the current month. That’s why this “Trap” started with “keep an eye out”. Because you need to be a full month ahead of going over to stop from getting auto-upgraded.

🔄 Try

Something small to test or improve this week.

The Hubspot Meetings Tool
If I had a nickel for every client I have helped, that was using calendly or similar when the functionality they needed was included as part of the Hubspot meetings scheduler, I would have, well, 45 cents. But still…

For some use cases, a 3rd party integration might be the way to go, but like so many elements of Hubspot, the platform tends to work better the more of it you use.

Here is where the meetings scheduler can be found, and some of the configuration options.

And yes, this does automatically add meeting activities to your contacts.
