Tip

Quick fix for a common HubSpot headache.

Link to a Record in an Internal Email
If you’re using workflows to send an internal email, there is no default property which will give you the link to the record that is in the workflow.

Here is how you build the link to send a Hubspot User a link to a specific record based on Record ID:

  1. Find the URL format for a contact record
    A contact record in HubSpot looks like this:

https://app.hubspot.com/contacts/{portal_id}/contact/{contact_id}
  • {portal_id} is your HubSpot account ID (found in the top right corner of your HubSpot account).

  • {contact_id} is the internal HubSpot Contact ID.

  1. Use a personalization token for the Contact ID
    In your automated internal email body, insert a link with the format:

https://app.hubspot.com/contacts/YOUR_PORTAL_ID/contact/{{contact.hs_object_id}}

⚠️ Trap

Mistake to avoid before it causes chaos.

Trouble with Company-Contact Associations? Check this Setting
When a HubSpot account is having an issue with company-contact associations, it comes down to one of two underlying problems.

  1. Companies and contacts are being associated when they shouldn’t be

  2. Companies and contacts are NOT being associated when they should be

Sometimes, there is a deeper issue, but switching this toggle on or off is often all they need to do.

When it’s turned on: Companies will be created and associated with contacts based off of their email domain.

When it’s turned off: new companies won’t be made, and associations won’t happen automatically.

Depending on your situation, you might want to investigate if this toggle is correctly configured.

Something small to test or improve this week.

Add a Company to CRM with the HubSpot Sales Extension
Many of us use the hubspot sales extension from within gmail to log and track emails or pull relevant contact, deal, or company info, but very few people know about this powerful way of using the chrome extension.

First you need to enable all websites in the extension’s settings. Then you will start to have a little hubspot button directly on website pages. This will open up a sidebar. That sidebar lets you view the current website’s company record in your hubspot account. If you don’t have a record for that company, it’s one click to create the record right from their website.
